TV, the good and the not so good

As you know, Hayley and I absolutely love our tv. We literally plan our evenings around the tv schedule. We are fortunate enough to have satelite and also a PVR (Tevo y`all). So we tend to either watch everything or tape everything.

Tv goes through good and bad times here in SA. We tend to have all the best shows on at the same time. Then we`ll go a few months with hardly anything to watch.

Fortunately now is a good time with lots of awesome shows on. We have The Amazing Race, Prison Break 4 and True Blood on Tuesdays; American Idol and The Mentalist on Wednesdays; American Idol and Fringe on Thursdays and The Office, Eli Stone, The Bachelor on Fridays. Saturdays are for sport as are most Sundays but we also have South African Idol on Sundays with the results shows on Mondays. I`m very embarrassed most of the time but we do have some talent, sometime....

This brings me to my favourite shows and my least favourites. Here is a list of my all time favourites and least favourites. A lot of my least favourites started of as favourites but then progressively got worse until I hated them.

My favourites

  • 24
  • Prison Break - Season 1
  • The Office (British and American versions)
  • Roswell - Season 1 & 2
  • Friday Night Lights
  • Greys Anatomy - Season 1 & 2
  • Friends
  • Spin City
  • American Idol
  • The Mentalist
  • Fringe
  • CSI (Las Vegas - Grissom rocks)
  • Eli Stone
  • 30 Rock
  • Dirty Sexy Money - Season 1
  • Ellen Degeneres
  • Riptide
  • Chips
  • X-Files
  • Will & Grace
  • Survivor
  • The Amazing Race
  • Seinfeld
  • Twin Peaks
  • Frasier
  • Lost

My Least Favourites

  • Greys Anatomy - Season 3 onwards
  • Dirty Sexy Money - Season 2 onwards
  • CSI Miami (Horatio Caine annoys the living daylights out of me)
  • Soapies - Days of our lives, etc etc etc
  • Oprah
  • The View - OBVIOUSLY
  • Dr Phil
  • Jerry Springer
  • The Coconuts (It just reminds me how backward South Africans actually are, so I stay away from the show and live in my own little cocoon)
  • EGOLI - Let me not start
  • Beauty and the Geek

So what do you think? Have I left your favourite off my list? Have I got your favourite as a Least favourite?

I`m sure I`ll sit down later and remember a whole bunch of shows that I forgot but that`s ok, it gives me another post!

Good list! But you forgot my favorite...LOST!!! Yes, I'm one of those people. I've been totally addicted and in love with LOST since the very first episode.

I also watched Dancing with the Stars for the very first time on Sunday and I actually liked it!

House is another one of my favorites :)

All this in addition to any cooking or DIY shows...

...or anything about animals...you had to know about that one!

I watch a lot of the same shows, except I don't generally watch reality shows, and we don't get HBO.

I'm enjoying TNT shows (I didn't know they did series until recently) The Closer, and Leverage (really like Leverage).

I just watched the first episode of Castle, and I liked it... unusual for me to like the very first show of a series.

I'm watching 24 for the first time this season, and I love it.

Am totally with you on the Hate list except for Beauty and the Geek...and the occasional Oprah.

And Grays< ja---its just getting progressively crap,in fact we are not watching at all anymore.

Nothing will ever touch [my] FRIENDS. *sob*

I tend to agree with you on the season 1 of series, there are not many programs that I have enjoyed the season 2 of. Of course I have to exclude Survivor and The Amazing Race, but I guess that goes down to reality tv. Nice choice of programs in your like list.

You forgot Lost, as you've already been told. Also House and The Biggest Loser. Those are three of my faves.

As Heather and Jenn pointed out, I forgot Lost. My bad. However, thanks to the wonders of modern day technology it has been added to the Favourites list. Whooooosh, just like that it`s there, go check it out.

Heidi, I love to hear about new shows. I`ll keep my eyes peeled for Castle.

Rambler, ja, the dancing shows are fun to watch. Hayley`s more into it than I am though. Probably because I KNOW I can`t dance... :D

Mel, I agree, Friends is definitely up there. And Greys, don`t even get me started. The show died along with Denny.

Keith, thanks buddy! I`m with you, I also love reality tv.

Oh Heather and Jenn, I`m so sad I never watched House. That`s a show I would`ve loved I`m sure.

We have lots of similar favs, Francois -- FNL, 24, Fringe.

A few more of my current favorites include Heroes, Dirty Jobs, and Little People/Big World.

Some of my past favs show my age -- Magnum P.I., Andy Griffith, Cheers, Mad About You, and the X Files are a few.

I can always be happy watching one of the classic film channels, regardless of what made-for-tv shows are running!

In my opinion, "24" is the most exciting hour on tv. Watching Jack Bauer kick the tail of terrorists and bad guys is a thrill!!

I did not realize you like this show, Francois. Is it big in South Africa?

Hey David! 24 is an awesome show and one of my favourites!I have a few of the series on dvd to prove it!

It is very popular here, one of the most popular shows in fact.

Will you be my TV guide? Heheh
Is True Blood the vampire one? I saw a bit of that the other day and it was really hectic.

Strangely enough The Coconuts have gotten a couple of giggles out of me now and again, mostly cause Patience is hilarious. It's definitely not our best stuff though, and I wouldn't want people outside SA to see it.

I haven't seen all the favourites you listed, but my favourites are on there! Personally, I never enjoyed Lost, probably cause I missed the first season and half of the second. What I saw never really inspired me to hire the first season either. I'm really disappointed by how Dirty Sexy Money has gone downhill. SO BAD.
Horatio makes me laugh with his cheesiness, so I'll watch the show if it's on. And as for 'Doctor' Phil, I knew a girl at college who was obsessed with him, seriously, like he was her personal development guru or something - but I do agree with something I heard him say once: If you're doing something, it means you're getting some benefit out of it - even if it's a bad situation. That makes a lot of sense to me.

I have to squeal here: SQQUUUUUUUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
YOU LIKE ROSWELL!!!
I thought there was only an small underground clan of Roswell lovers! I was so bummed when the series ended, especially the way it did. I was in highschool, and I used to literally shiver waiting for the show to come on. Well, the day for the last episode came along - AND THERE WAS A STORM AND THE LIGHTS WENT OUT. I missed the last half of the last episode. I laugh at how dramatic I was then, but I think I actually sobbed my heart out. Hee hee. Eventually got to see it cause a girl at school taped it (only the last half - but it was what I needed!)
Dark Angel's ending also bummed me out. Two good shows hit the floor.

Oooh oooh - and one more: Six Feet Under. I missed the last couple of seasons, but those first two seasons were AMAZING.

Wow. That's a long list.

there's not a single TV show that we watch regularly enough to count it as a favourite.

Nessie, I`m so glad you were also a Roswell fan! My sister lives in New Zealand and they usually get the cool shows before we do. Well, she phoned me to let me know about Roswell and when it finally started I was so excited. It was also the time when Hayley and I just got together, so it was very special!

Tamara, Hayley and I HEART our tv! I think it`s a very unhealthy obsession actually.
